Inimitable Tanzania 2018

Tour Dates

27 March 2018 - 4 April 2018 Fully Booked

Most of us are returning visitors to Africa. It was this consideration that led to crafting this safari: A safari where a true local will host you to give you an entirely new experience. It is another first for C4 Photo Safaris- where you will be given access to parts of Africa not many people travel to and come away with images that capture the true essence of your visit due to the depth of the experience you have. Our goal is not to get you just take a few excellent images. Rather it is to give you an experience that will touch you deeply, give you an understanding of your presence and come away with images that speak authentically of your journey.

This safari will combine some of Tanzania’s wildlife wonders with one of the least visited tribes in the country; the Mang’ati. C4 Photo Safaris has teamed up with Hannah Strand who will be the co-host on the safari along with Shem Compion. Hannah is a born Tanzanian. Her families’ safari company is older than her and this is how she grew up: on the open plains on safari. For her studies, Hannah spent two years working with the remote Mang’ati tribe. She slept in a tent living with the tribe, engaging with the woman and becoming an intimate part of their lives. It gave her an acceptance that no other person has- especially amongst the woman of the tribe. This notoriously reticent tribe is well known for their detailed and delicate facial scarification on the ladies. On this safari, Hannah’s presence will allow us access to the tribe she spent so much time with, giving us unprecedented admission and photographic opportunities of these beautiful people. When combined with Shem’s exceptionally deep experience of working with and photographing tribes across Africa, you will capture images and scenes that would be unattainable without his help. His empathy, feel for the situation and understanding of light will make for some remarkable images of a long forgotten tribe in Africa.

The cultural aspect of this safari is only one part of the experience. Hannah and Shem will lead you through the elephant rich valleys of Tarangire, where Hannah will share how she grew up along the river watching wildlife amble through the family camp each evening.  Elephants are one of the main attractions of Tarangire, with many award-winning photos having been taken here, but it is also rich in predators and other wildlife. Overall it is a magical wildlife photographic location with a lot to offer, especially tree climbing lions and baobab landscapes.

We will end the safari on the southern plains of the Serengeti. Here, in our exclusive camp, we will have full access to the wildlife rich southern Serengeti plains. Specifically our focus at this time of year will be to spend time with cheetahs. During this season they are hunting out in the open, allowing us to follow them and photograph them in their full splendour. Expect action, open plains and not one other vehicle around. Amongst the cheetah there are lions on granite koppies (Boulders) typical of the Serengeti, giraffe journeying across the plains, elephants in the valleys and the myriad of other Serengeti wildlife that make this such a wonder of the natural world. Expect your cameras to work overtime.

This safari will stir your imagination to reveal images you could only imagine. It combines the unique richness of Tanzania’ s wildlife and culture with the local experience and depth of knowledge of Hannah and Shem. Their combined knowledge of wildlife, photographic excellence, cultural understanding and integrity make this a safari that will gain you insight, knowledge, empathy and a bagful of images simply not possible elsewhere.

This safari is limited to only 6 participants. We will have two vehicles with three rows each at each location and one guide on each vehicle. All fights, transfers and logistics are included in the cost of the safari. This safari combines seamless travel logistics, comfortable accommodation and sensational wildlife plus the attraction of spending time with the Mang’ati Tribe. I invite you to join us on this safari. If you are interested in joining us, please contact our office or read further for more information.
