Serengeti with Jonathan Scott 2019

Tour Dates

11 March 2019 - 19 March 2019 Space available

Over the past 8 years C4 Photo Safaris have run photo safaris to this magnificent, but large wonderland. We have now refined this itinerary to give you the ultimate experience of the Serengeti calving season. We have always believed in leading from the front and so for our 2019 season Jonathan Scott will be joining us for this entire safari. You will be hosted by this legendary wildlife photographer and conservationist who has spent 40 years documenting the ecosystem and its spectacular big cats.

Jonathan and his wife Angela are the only couple to have both won the overall BBC wildlife photographer of the year award as individuals; they have written numerous books and have produced many TV shows. The most well known being BBC’s Big Cat Diaries which was a worldwide success. Their latest book Sacred Nature: Life’s Eternal Dance (HPH) won the Gold Award for Photography in the IPPY Book Awards 2017.

Jonathan will be joining us to share his love of the Serengeti, inspire, educate and present talks on conservation and photography in what is essentially, his second home. You will have unprecedented opportunity to enjoy time with one of the Africa’s most respected educators, learning from his experiences, sharing his company and being inspired by his passion and enthusiasm

Spend 7 glorious nights with us deep in the beating heart of this ecosystem. We have a located and partnered with two small camps, far away from other lodges. Both camps are booked for our exclusive and private use. This means we have the whole camp entirely to ourselves. We have selected the locations carefully in order to get the most of the ecosystem. Our first camp will be in the Namiri area, with the famous Serengeti koppies upon which lions, leopards and even buffalo reside. Secondly, we move south to our second camp which is in prime migration country for this season. Here we can hope expect to see the calving wildebeest migration in its entirety.

From these two camps you will head out to firstly witness the spectacle of the calving wildebeest and secondly search for hunting predators. This season attracts predators in search of easy prey. Expect to see lion and cheetah on a daily basis, with black backed jackals and hyena as daily additions. Its not only the mammals that come to feast- Birds of prey are everywhere during the calving season and this must be the best place in Africa to photograph raptors!

Make sure you join us on this fantastic itinerary that has been refined with our years of experience, to give you the best opportunity to witness the calving migration and the associated action it attracts with it. It is surely one not to be missed.

Of course Jonathan Scott and a C4 Photo Safaris guide will accompany you on the safari to ensure you experience the very best from this ecosystem and this safari.

NOTES

  • For all arrival transfers there will be a sign “C4 Photo Safaris” typed on a name board that the driver will hold up.
  • It is very important to get your yellow fever injection and certificate. It should be done no later then 2 weeks before your trip. It is valid for 10 years, so if you have had one done, you should just remember to bring the certificate.
  • On all our tours we may ask participants to rotate seats in the vehicles, taking it in turn to sit in the more popular seats in the front and the less popular ones in the rear. This requirement applies to everyone. If there is some reason why you can’t take your turn in the back of a vehicle (e.g. a bad back or travel sickness) please inform our office at the time of booking to see if we can accommodate you. We regret that anyone failing to inform us of such limitations before the tour will be expected to rotate seats in the same way as everyone else.

Olerai Bush Home

Recently finished lodge in Arusha, a great addition the other two Wildlife Explorer tented safari camps. The modern chalets have three rooms with a semicircular entrance and views over the landscaped gardens which are all shaded by mature yellow barked acacia trees. The interiors are modern, combining metal lamp shades, exposed wooden ceilings and a well thought out fabrics.

The communal and dining area with open fire, candle light and table settings for plenty of guests, where Merci the chef can prepare and more sophisticated cuisine that is not available in the tented camps. A real farm to plate experience with home grown vegetables and herbs.

Legendary Serengeti Mobile Camp

Explore a rich landscape of inky blue skies, burnt orange sunsets and the soft neutrals of the African savannah. Within the largest of Tanzania’s national parks is a promise of luxury with premier accommodations and superb service that are Legendary Serengeti Camp.

Pitched as a split camp whereby one side of the camp will have 6 or 7 tents and the other side will have 5 or 4 tents, each half of the camp faces in a different direction and natural habitat ensures maximum privacy. Each camp is fully contained with its own lounge and dining facility. Six or more guests are guaranteed an exclusive camp. Smaller parties will have semi-exclusivity whereby another couple or small family may be booked into camp simultaneously. Each party will have a private safari vehicle for game drives and will be seated at separate dining tables for mealtimes.

The mobile camps are closed from 1 May until 15 May due to high rain fall anticipated during the green season of Tanzania. The planned dates for camp mobilisation are subject to change. The camp follows the migratory route of the wildebeest. Should the herds move earlier or later than expected, the camps will be mobilised accordingly. Please enquire with specific dates to check the expected location of the camp.

Dulana Camp

Dulana sits on the edge of ‘Hidden Valley’ a little known depression on the southern plains of the Serengeti, on the edge of the off road driving area, allowing immediate access onto the short grass plains where Cheetah are abundant and Lion prides establish territory close to camp and the surrounding woodland.

The camp takes advantage of the uninterrupted views across the shallow valley, where different species of game can be spotted from the comfort of the accommodation tents. The main lounge and dining tents also enjoy splendid views and are a haven of comfort for the hours of daytime rest.

Nearby, a towering kopje system create the backdrop for African sundowners saluting the end of another spectacular safari day. The site for Dulana has been selected for its proximity to the short grass plains but more importantly, the camp has a feel of remote exclusivity, away from most other tourism in an isolated setting. Dulana activities are all about big game-predator and prey interaction with more than a little theatre thrown in as embellishment for the adrenalin rush that is the Serengeti.

Serengeti 2011

"This trip was worth every penny (or dollar) I spent! I would give it a 12 out of 10 rating for meeting my expectations. Greg was a superb host and with his help I personally sorted out quite a lot of technical issues around my photography. I would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to get to a wilderness area and really see Africa."

Serengeti 2011

"Absolutely brilliant! As a first timer I didnt know what to expect. Now I just want to go straight back but somehow I feel that my now heightened expectations will fall short. Weve been told that the events we witnessed were unprecedented. 6 kills (2 cheetah and 4 lion), a leopard bringing her kill into the camp, lion cubs, cheetah cubs, newborn elephant, elephant mating and a vehicle to ourselves! I would like to say that Greg and the drivers were brilliant. Dave, our driver, seemed to have x-ray vision when it came to spotting wildlife and was a very considerate driver, never cutting anybody up or positioning the vehicle in the way of others like some of the companies seemed to do. He was also very knowledgeable and anything he didnt know he was very willing to look-up and find out. Greg was also very knowledgeable and an invaluable resource as far as photography goes."
