Xigera Extensions 18-21 Nov 2018

To encapsulate the 3 most productive wildlife viewing areas in Botswana, we have created a 3 day add on to this safari. Xigera is situated right in the heart of the Okavango Delta. This camp epitomizes the aquatic and on-land wildlife experience that the Okavango is so famous for. Xigera is the best place to see Pels Fishing Owl and the elusive and highly sought after Sitatunga antelope, that resides in the Papyrus lined water channels. In recent years predator sightings have increased, leopard in particular, and a game drive here will also include Red Lechwe, Elephant and exceptional birdlife.

The Xigera extension is an optional extra after the Boundless Botswana Safari.

This safari will be personally guided by Kyle and Ruth De Nobrega who currently reside on the banks of the Okavango Delta on the outskirts of Maun. In 2017, they traversed the Okavango Delta in a traditional dugout canoe (Mokoro) to gain an in depth understanding of this fascinating eco-system. Prior to moving to the northern wilderness regions of Botswana, the couple spent 3 years managing the C4 photographic concession within Mashatu. Here, they managed, designed and built some of the photographic hides as well as hosted specialized photographic and wildlife safaris at Mashatu. Their combined experience and knowledge allow for a unique opportunity to experience these highly photogenic regions.

A minimum of 2 pax is needed for the extension to run and price is available on request.

About your host, Ruth Nussbaum

With an innate love for travel and wildlife her passion for photography was bound to work hand in hand. Her photographic career began in the form of Fine Art at Rhodes University and has since adapted and taken on new forms during her many travels over the past few years. Day 1 - 3

Xigera Camp, Okavango Delta

After your last game drive and breakfast at DumaTau you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Xigera Camp in the Delta. You will be transferred from the airstrip to camp for 2 nights stay.

Xigera is located on the palm filled Paradise Island surrounded by tall stands of riverine woodland. From here we can experience this serene landscape by boat or by vehicle. However, a morning on a Mokoro floating over the crystal clear waters lined with water lilies, Painted Reed Frogs and the striking colours of a Malachite Kingfisher might be the best way to get a feel for this aquatic paradise.

Day 1 - 3

A flight transfer back to Maun International Airport in time for your international flight back home. This is the end of the safari.

Xigera Camp

Xigera Camp (pronounced Keejera) lies on the aptly named Paradise Island, surrounded by deep channels and lush vegetation within a remote area of the productive Moremi Game Reserve. For much of the year this magnificent area epitomises the permanently flooded section of the Okavango Delta, with palm-filled islands, riverine forests, a multitude of clear water channels and expansive floodplains.

There are nine raised luxury tents with en-suite facilities, an outdoor shower – and superb views of the classic Okavango Delta floodplains that surround the camp. Meals and evening drinks are enjoyed in the lounge, bar and dining area overlooking a permanently flowing channel or under the stars in a traditional African boma. For those hot days there is a small plunge pool in which to cool off.
