Over the past 9 years C4 has run photo safaris to this magnificent, but large wonderland. We have now refined this itinerary to give you the ultimate experience of the Serengeti calving season. Spend 5 glorious nights with us deep in the beating heart of this ecosystem. We have a located and partnered with a small, exclusive camp, far away from other lodges with their own airstrip. From here we have exclusive access the reserve as well as the game management areas- perfect for locating and spending time with the calving herds of wildebeest.
From this base you will head out to firstly witness the spectacle of the calving wildebeest and secondly search for hunting predators. The calving areas of the Serengeti are large and vast. Our base is centrally located to find the migratory herds, or we may even find them right in front of camp. The wildebeest are unpredictable, but also require the short grass plains for the calves and as such we are perfectly placed to explore and find them. For with the herds, come the predators and we hope to see lions, hyenas and cheetah during our drives. Of course, the rocky koppies of the Serengeti are scattered over the plains and we can expect to find lions on them too. Expect this safari to be one of exploration across a wilderness vast and wide, all on your own. The photography is about space, migration and predators. It is a very special place in Africa that always produces very special memories and images.
There is a maximum of only 6 photographers allowed on this trip, split into two vehicles and with two professional photographic leaders. This means that there are only three photographers per safari truck and that for every single safari drive you take, you will benefit by having a professional wildlife photographer on-board.
If a non-photographing partner joins, they must share a row in the vehicle with their photographing partner. This way all single photographers can shoot out the left and the right of the vehicle.
Make sure you join us on this fantastic itinerary that has been refined with experience to give you the best opportunity to witness the calving migration and the associated action it attracts with it. It is surely one not to be missed.
Andre Cloete and Isak Pretorius will host and lead this safari. Andre has led our last five years in the Serengeti and each year follows the migration throughout the year. He has an intimate knowledge of the ecosystem and brings his excellent motion blur techniques with him on this safari- perfect for those running wildebeest in high numbers. Isak knows the Serengeti well and both Andre and Isak will add immense value to your safari with their knowledge of predators, in-camera settings for action photography and deep knowledge of the ecosystem.
Please Note: We have removed Ngorongoro crater from the itinerary. The vehicle rules inside the crater have changed, now allowing many more vehicles inside the crater. If you would like to visit the crater we can easily arrange a full service add-on to your safari. Ngorongoro remains one of the wonders of the natural world and is a spectacle in itself. Please contact us should you wish to do so.
The plains of the Serengeti offer almost unlimited opportunity for photography. It is a photographic nirvana that ensures cameras constantly trained on something exciting...
Arrive in Arusha, Tanzania in the early afternoon. You will be met by a C4 representative and who will transfer you to the Olerai Bush Home for your one nights stay. Our C4 photo safari guides will make contact with you at the hotel to arrange dinner for the photography group and discuss the logistics of the following morning.
After breakfast you will be transferred to the Arusha airport for a midday flight to the Southern end of Serengeti National Park. You will be met at the airstrip by Dulana camp representatives who will transfer you the Dulana Camp for your 6 nights stay. You will enjoy a game drive and picnic lunch on before driving into Camp, situated in Kusini.
Dulana sits on the edge of ‘Hidden Valley’ a little known depression on the southern plains of the Serengeti, on the edge of the off road driving area, allowing immediate access onto the short grass plains where Cheetah are abundant and Lion prides establish territory close to camp and the surrounding woodland. The Luxury Mobile Tented Camps are tasteful, extremely comfortable, and above all mobile, allowing us complete freedom to follow the movements of the great migratory herds. The tents, which have been custom designed, offer the very highest level of comfort and mobility. New furniture, new layout, and now full led and energy saving light technology make those early morning wake up calls even more enjoyable! The bathrooms remain en-suite, but the shower now enjoys an open air feel to really take advantage of the impressive night skies. All tents are en-suite with Queen or twin bedded sleeping arrangements, silver service dining and a renowned well-balanced menus served al Fresco under the African stars or in the candlelit dining tent.
The camp takes advantage of the uninterrupted views across the shallow valley, where different species of game can be spotted from the comfort of the accommodation tents. The main lounge and dining tents also enjoy splendid views and are a haven of comfort for the hours of daytime rest. Nearby, a towering kopje system create the backdrop for African sundowners saluting the end of another spectacular safari day. Four full days will be spent exploring the nearby areas of the Serengeti ecosystem, following local conditions and the movement of game.
After your last game drive and breakfast you will be transferred back to the Airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Arusha Airport. From here you will be transferred back to Kilimanjaro International Airport in time for your international flights home or possible Mahale extension.
Recently finished lodge in Arusha, a great addition the other two Wildlife Explorer tented safari camps. The modern chalets have three rooms with a semicircular entrance and views over the landscaped gardens which are all shaded by mature yellow barked acacia trees. The interiors are modern, combining metal lamp shades, exposed wooden ceilings and a well thought out fabrics.
The communal and dining area with open fire, candle light and table settings for plenty of guests, where Merci the chef can prepare and more sophisticated cuisine that is not available in the tented camps. A real farm to plate experience with home grown vegetables and herbs.

The site for Dulana has been selected for its proximity to the short grass plains but more importantly, the camp has a feel of remote exclusivity, away from most other tourism in an isolated setting. Dulana activities are all about big game-predator and prey interaction with more than a little theatre thrown in as embellishment for the adrenalin rush that is the Serengeti.
Maximum of 6 clients, there will be 2 vehicles with 3 clients per vehicle. There will be two C4 Guides.
30% Deposit required when booking. Balance payable weeks prior to departure.

"This trip was worth every penny (or dollar) I spent! I would give it a 12 out of 10 rating for meeting my expectations. Greg was a superb host and with his help I personally sorted out quite a lot of technical issues around my photography. I would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to get to a wilderness area and really see Africa."Christine Lamberth
"This is definitely a trip that should be on your bucket list if you are a wildlife and photography enthusiast."Paul and Barbara Voster
"Absolutely brilliant! As a first timer I didnt know what to expect. Now I just want to go straight back but somehow I feel that my now heightened expectations will fall short. Weve been told that the events we witnessed were unprecedented. 6 kills (2 cheetah and 4 lion), a leopard bringing her kill into the camp, lion cubs, cheetah cubs, newborn elephant, elephant mating and a vehicle to ourselves! I would like to say that Greg and the drivers were brilliant. Dave, our driver, seemed to have x-ray vision when it came to spotting wildlife and was a very considerate driver, never cutting anybody up or positioning the vehicle in the way of others like some of the companies seemed to do. He was also very knowledgeable and anything he didnt know he was very willing to look-up and find out. Greg was also very knowledgeable and an invaluable resource as far as photography goes."Paul and Sally Turner
