Most of Africa’s iconic safari destinations host thousands of travellers from around the planeteach year. It is thus quite remarkable that Zakouma National Park in the country of Chad hasremained off the radar for so long, yet it produces spectacular photographic opportunities in purewilderness.. The park is open for only 11 weeks of the year and at 8 persons per group, there areless than 100 tourists that who visit this camp and the park each year. The contrast of adventureand the remoteness make it one of the most exciting destinations in Africa today. Tourism is virtuallybrand new to the region and thus you have freedom to explore and experience the reserve and its wildlifein a unique way, a far cry from the set and scheduled operations of other safari experiences in Africa. This is a safari destination that no one is talking about because no one has been there. It is in the heartof a 350 000ha unfenced wilderness where lions roam as they have for time immemorial. This is a wildAfrica that excites, entices and is very full of life.
In 2015, C4 Photo Safaris’ guide, Kyle de Nobrega visited Zakouma to experience this wilderness and gain valuable experience of the area and the wildlife before leading this unique photo safari. Kyle returned amazed at the vast potential of Zakouma as a wildlife photography destination. C4 Photo Safaris has partnered with African Parks and Camp Nomade to run this very special and unique photo safari into one of Africa’s most unknown destinations. C4 photo guide Kyle De Nobrega will host this safari in conjunction with Shem Compion.

"Imagine a 3000 square kilometer park where the elephant roam in a herd of 500+, the Pelican -both species, Northern Crowned Cranes, White faced ducks and Spur winged geese are all fishing in front of camp by the thousands while red billed queleas blacken the sky at dusk…just two vehicles nearly always heading off in different directions, two guides and us..no other vehicle ever to spoil a shot! That is the reality of Zakouma where as the water dries up, everything is attracted in abundance to the drying pools and marshes. ‘Abundance’ was a word we used again and again to describe the Lelwels Hartebeest, Tiang, Defassa Waterbuck, Buffon’s kob, Kordofan giraffe, Olive Baboon, multiple individual lion we stopped counting around the 20 mark, leopard, civet and serval, patus and tantulus monkey, large herds of buffalo... the list goes on and on... Add Kyle de Norbrega’s knowledge, boundless enthusiasm and passion for Zakouma, the amazing conservation work of Africa parks, the seamless C4 logistics and fantastic camp staff and I can safely say this is a truly unique experience that those few of us who ever get to come here will never, ever forget…..
