The place where Noah left his Ark
As an example of Mozambique’s parks, Gorongosa is the country’s conservation highlight, with much of the park yet to be explored- and new species still being discovered.
A massive country, Mozambique has a small conservation footprint, yet a very important one and, one of the most inspiring conservation success stories on the continent in Gorongosa.
Perhaps the country is more famous for its amazing beaches and islands along the coastline, where azure waters meet palm fringed talcum power beaches. These locations have 5 star resorts that are truly luxurious in all way possible.
Niassa reserve and Gorongosa make up the bulk of the conserved areas in the country, with Gorongosa being the most well known. Gorongosa was once one of the most prestigious and well-developed safari destinations in Africa, boasting the highest densities of game on the continent. The wildlife and infrastructure of the park were decimated during the Mozambican Civil War, which lasted from 1977 until 1992 and dramatically reduced the number of animals within Gorongosa; the zebra population was reduced from an estimated 3,500 individuals to just nine.
