Johan Enslin
Proffesional Photographer and Safari Guide
Born in Namibia and shaped by the stillness of its wild places, Johan Enslin brings nearly a decade of guiding experience across Southern Africa. His calm presence and intuitive understanding of the natural world make him an exceptional guide and teacher in the field. With an eye always tuned to the subtle movements of the bush, Johan has a gift for knowing where to look—and when to wait. This instinct, combined with a refined photographic sense, allows him to reveal moments that many might otherwise overlook: the play of light across desert dunes, the quiet watchfulness of a leopard at dusk, or the silent grace of elephants on the move.
Over the years, Johan has guided guests through some of Africa’s most celebrated and remote regions, including Namibia’s Etosha, Damaraland, and Skeleton Coast; Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Mashatu, and Central Kalahari; and South Africa’s Kruger region, Timbavati, and Zimanga. His guiding career began in Namibia, where his deep connection to the land and its rhythms first took root. From there, he expanded his experience across borders, leading photographic safaris that combine technical expertise, local knowledge, and a genuine appreciation for the wild.
As part of the Go Gravel Photo Safaris team, Johan now leads specialist photographic journeys that place guests at the heart of Africa’s great landscapes and wildlife spectacles. Whether working alongside professional photographers or helping first-time visitors take their best images, Johan’s approach is always personal and patient. His goal is to create not just photographs, but meaningful experiences—moments that deepen his guests’ connection to nature and to Africa itself.
Johan holds a FGASA Level 2 Professional Field Guide qualification, Wilderness First Aid certification, and advanced 4x4 training. He has also completed C4’s professional photographic guiding mentorship under Shem Compion and the C4 guiding team. His areas of expertise include wildlife behaviour, animal tracking, landscape composition, and conservation storytelling.
Grounded, gentle, and deeply connected to the natural world, Johan shares Africa as he experiences it—alive, unpredictable, and endlessly captivating. As he often says, “Guiding is about more than sightings—it’s about learning to see. The wilderness speaks softly, and patience lets you hear it.”
